Yarn Review: Sensations Lustrous Lamb
It’s been a while since I made my post about my favorite worsted weight yarns, since then I’ve found a couple others that I can’t wait to tell you about! First up is Sensations Lustrous Lamb. Holy crap, I’m in love! Seriously, there’s nothing I don’t like about it.

I randomly found this yarn while shopping at Joann’s. I had never heard of it before, but the bold colors caught my eye and I impulsively bought a skein of Royal because it was just too pretty to leave behind. It wasn’t long before I went back for a skein of Gold. So far I’ve tried 6 of the 18 colors it comes in, Royal & Gold being my favorites!
I used the Gold to make my Pineapple Coconut Skully (XL version) and I love it to pieces! It’s currently my favorite hat and I wear it way too much! There are 308 yards in a skein (more than my other favorite, Red Heart Soft Yarn!), which was enough for me to make this hat + the one in the previous picture + I still have some left over!
It’s a blend of 80% acrylic, 20% wool. I normally stay away from wool and wool blend yarns because they tend to be itchy but this one is so soft, you wouldn’t even know it had wool in it! It’s only $4.99, which is totally fair and worth it in my opinion, considering the quality and how much you get.

I really like this yarn for slouchy hats because it’s not stiff and drapes really well. I used it to make my Spring Blossom Slouchy (above) & also made a few Pinecone Slouchies (below) while I was designing that pattern. I love all of them! It’s worked perfectly with every pattern I’ve tried so far.
I can’t wait to buy more colors and try making something other than hats with it! I absolutely love this yarn and can’t recommend it highly enough! Seriously Joann’s, if you ever discontinue this yarn, I WILL CRY! I plan on using it so much in the future! It’s become my go to yarn more than any of the ones in my original favorites post.

The yarn looks soft in the pictures and it resembles Caron Simply Soft in the pictures, which I absolutely love. I will have to try this brand, thanks for the review.
Thanks for the review. I haven’t used this brand yet and I think I’ll give it a try … maybe it will help me get over my wool phobia!
I tend to stay away from wool since that, mohair, and cashmere makes me itch like crazy.
But, your review has me curious so I’ll definitely check them out.
I love bold colors, and I like what you made with these pretty yarns. I’m planning on stopping by Joann Fabrics this coming week, so I’ll be sure to check it out. I’ll know right away if ithe yarn makes me itch.
Hi Julie, today I picked up some lustrous lamb because I like it and it was on clearance. I came home and began searching for a pattern I could use with it and came across your blog saying how much you LOVE it. We you may have to get the tissue because I think Joann’s is discontinuing it. If not all, there are certain colors. Today I picked up the kelly green. I too, hope they do not discontinue this fabulous soft worsted yarn.

Yea, I was at Joann’s last week and noticed that it was all gone. I wish I had seen it on clearance, I would have stocked up! They’re still selling certain colors on their website but I’m disappointed that now I have to pay for shipping and wait a week to get it.

Oh nevermind. They’re down to four colors now so I guess they are getting rid of it all. I’m majorly disappointed in you, Joann’s. That’ll teach me to get attached to your yarns! :(
I so love Sensations Lustrous Lamb too! I am in a bind. i purchased what I thought was a sufficient amount for a man’s sweater early this year. However after completing the front and back I realize i only have enough yarn for one sweater. I tried the store where I made the initial purchase as well as three other craft stores in my area without any luck. do you know of a store I might find what I need? It is 4 ply L.L. You might be able to find some on Ebay. Sensations is Joann’s brand so you won’t find it in any other craft stores. If you find it anywhere online, it would just be someone selling what they bought. Maybe on Ebay or Etsy. I’m not sure where else you can sell yarn because I don’t really buy it online anymore. Good luck!
I think they did discontinue this yarn! :-( I love it too and was looking online for some. I picked up a bunch of skeins a couple weeks ago clearanced out at $0.97/skein I too loved the gold and want more!
Lucky! I never even saw it on clearance at my Joann’s. For 97 cents I would have bought it all! hehe! I want more of that gold so bad! That’s one of my very favorite colors and I can’t think of any other yarn that comes in a color like it :( I’m hoping they bring it back for Winter or something.
Jen, I am so sick that they are no longer carrying the Sensations Lustrous yarn that I am flooding Joann’s customer service to bring it back. All those that feel the same. I suggest you follow suit. It is worth a try.
I love your hats. I hope they bring back the Lustrous Lamb yarn! The colors are wonderful. I was glad I had the opportunity to work with it. I haven’t found anything that can compare.
