My First Ever Yarn Haul Video!

This is the first video I’ve ever made where I was in front of the camera talking (and now I realize that I need to buy a mic) and it was a little intimidating but I figure I’ll only get better with practice! ;)

Watch me in all my shy & awkward glory as I show you what I got from Jimmy Beans Wool & Knit Picks! A lot of you have said you like to see what yarns I’m using so I hope you enjoy seeing what I bought!

I would love it if you’d subscribe to my YouTube channel! And let me know if there are any specific videos you’d like me to make!

  1. Yus….I know how you feel. Wool can be scratchy and kind of stiff feeling. There are the higher priced yarns and they are just amazing to feel. SweetGeorgia, Hazel Knits, Malabrigos “arroyo” and others. But for a good price the softest I have worked with is Ella Rae yarn…their classic superwash is awesome so that I can throw it in the washer if need be.

  2. Just watched your video. I noticed the wools you purchased aren’t the softest that you can find. I shop Knit Picks often. Perhaps it might help if you check out user reviews of the wools you’d like to try before purchase. Ravelry has a yarn database where you can do this. Palette may not be the best next to skin yarn. But knit picks also sells wools that are wonderful for that. Their stroll line for instance is considered a softer wool. I personally love the stroll tonals.

    1. I didn’t realize Ravelry had reviews. I’ve seen the star rating that you can add when you’re adding a project, but is there a spot for written reviews too? I’ll have to check! I was actually reading the reviews on the Knit Picks site before I made this order. A bunch of people said the Wool of the Andes was soft but I have to disagree.

I’m actually happy with Palette. It’s not the softest but for leg warmers, it won’t bother me. I will have to give Stroll a try next time. Thank you for the recommendation! :) I usually prefer wool blends so I’m sure that one will be softer.

  3. On Ravelry there is a yarn tab next to the patterns tab. Pretty similar to the patterns you can either type in the yarn you want more information about or you can search for it by content, company, and there is even a new yarns box for all the newest yarns that have been added. Once you do get to the one you’d like to see. All you do is click on the comments tab under that yarn. It helps to make sure that on the left you have checked the newest comments to the oldest. Knit Picks has in the past year and more recently switched up some of their manufacturers so at times the yarn has notably altered. For some this hasn’t been an issue and for others it has. So it helps to take each review with a grain of salt and weigh whether you feel you’d like to try it or not. Hope this helps. Also knit picks from my experience changes up yarn lines quite a bit. So if you find something you like don’t be opposed to buying a lot. ;) or like me, just buy what’s available and new to fall in love with something else.
