Work In Progress: Golden Poppy Barefoot Sandals

I’m SO excited to announce that I’m working on a new barefoot sandal pattern!! My other four went over so well that I’ve been wanting to design more ever since. Only problem was, they had to be different! No more triangles! So I spent months straining my brain to come up with something unique! These are my prototypes. I’m really happy with how they came out and don’t think I’ll be making many changes to the final design. I would love to hear your thoughts and any suggestions!

Want a little peek into my design process for these? :)

This is a sketch I did back in January (random foot model clip art :P). I instantly loved them as soon as a drew them but didn’t have a chance to start working on them until this week.

The flower (lower right) was the first thing I made and it only took me a couple tries to get it how I wanted. The leaves were a little more tricky. I really wanted the straps to resemble actual poppy leaves. I made a few in embroidery floss and then decided to try one in worsted so I could see the stitches a little better.

So this is the first one that I actually finished (before it was finished). I’m not really a fan of barefoot sandals made in worsted weight yarn but these worked out better than I expected. I’m not sure if I’ll include the worsted version in the pattern or not. Personally, I would probably not wear them. But I like the idea of giving people the choice since I know not everyone likes to work with tiny thread.

Sooo… pattern coming soon! :)
