2 Fun DIY Ideas For Planting Your Succlents

It’s been really hot around here lately (70-80 degrees for the past couple weeks) and I think it’s making me feel like Spring is here already or something because I’ve been wanting to plant stuff! I got some new succulents and wanted something different to plant them in. Here’s what I came up with!

This one is super easy! Soup can + hot glue + jute twine. Just wrap the jute around and make little dots of glue as needed to hold it in place. As simple as it is, I really like how this came out. I just hope the sun doesn’t melt the glue and make it all fall apart!

Anyone remember my glitter luminaries? I haven’t been using them anymore so I thought it would be pretty to put plants in them. Not sure how long the glitter will hold up once it gets wet but I guess even if it peels off, it will still look cool to have them in mason jars.

This one was also really easy to make. Wrap a piece of painters tape around the jar, paint the bottom half of the jar with Mod Podge, cover it with glitter, peel off the tape & allow it time to dry.

  1. Loving your succulents, they’re stunning! I also loved your 70 to 80 degrees “really hot” – last week in Brisbane (Australia) we hit 43 degrees Celsius, aka 109.6! That was a tad hot, yes…..granted, it is Summer…it’s only gonna get worse, eeek! Love your work, Cheers, Suze :-)

    1. eek! That’s horrible! It typically doesn’t get above 90 here so I don’t really have a high tolerance for heat! hah! But I say that’s really hot because it’s the middle of winter here but definitely doesn’t feel like it!

  2. From experience last summer I planted plants in mason jars. Without doing a whole lot of research before hand. ( ok none lol) but because there was no ventilation or drainage my plants got root rot. So I would drill a whole very carefully In The bottom of the mason jar first. This might be a duh who doesn’t know that to some people but I hadn’t thought of it before I did it lol so just a heads up for the ones that are in a hurry to get planting like I was.

    1. I had no idea that could happen either! What type of plants were yours? This is the first time I’ve planted in mason jars but I have succulents in a few other things that have no drainage holes either and they seem to be doing ok. I have noticed though that the ones in pots with really good drainage seem to grow a lot bigger.

  3. They were flowers not succulents. So I do think the succulents will last longer than my flowers did. But I would look up your succulents because I think some of them would prefer to be water from the roots as well . Also if they do not like to be root bound mason jar might not be a great idea because there is not a lot of root room. But I think most succulents don’t mind being root bound. But drainage is in my opinion always better than no drainage. Sorry I didn’t mean to rain on your post.
