Yarn Embellished Tote Bag

This bag just sort of happened! I found the ikat fabric and the yarn (both bought on total impulse! ha!) and thought they needed to go together somehow. So… This is what I came up with! I’ve never sewn yarn onto fabric before but thought it would be a fun experiment. All I did was use a zig zag stitch. I set it so that the stitches were a little wider than the yarn and really far apart. Pretty simple.

I was thinking I could do a tutorial on this technique if it’s something that anyone would be interested in?

The yarn I used is Lion Brand Unique, which comes in such pretty colors! This color is called grapevine. I also made a headband out of it that I need to get pictures of!

  1. I would like to know how. I made a purse that I crochet, then tried to line it with fabric and it came out ok but not the greatest. But i would love to know how to do the yarn on fabric because i wanted to make another purse but with yarn on fabric.

  2. I just wanted to let you know that this process (zig zag on yarn) is called ‘couching’ and is used in sewing and art quilts frequently. Just FYI. :-)

      1. You are welcome! I forgot to say I am very impressed with your beautiful crocheting/design! Not to mention all it takes to keep your site bright and cheery (I read your question/answer post). KUDOS! :-)
