Favorite Finds: Handmade Swings

My current thing (interest/obsession? I guess) is handmade swings. I’ve heard of people crocheting hammocks and I figure it can’t be much harder than crocheting a blanket. I’d really love to make one sometime but I question how sturdy they are. I guess I have a paranoia of whatever I make not being strong enough to hold me! :P

I think I’m most likely to try making one of the first two. I was thinking that I could use one of my old, really heavy hula hoops as the frame for a chair like the second picture.

Have you ever made a hammock or chair like any of these? Any tips or ideas for making sure it’s sturdy enough?

  1. I love the photos of the swings in Favorite Finds! Looking at them makes me want to make one (or two!) but I feel like you do – would it be strong enough to hold me? I would hate to do all that work for it to fall apart when I sat in it! They are absolutely gorgeous though!

    1. That’s what I was thinking! I’m sure I’ll get ambitious and try making one some day but for now, I’d really like to buy one of these so I know it’s sturdy enough to use! :)

  2. Those are so lovely, but I’d be so afraid of making my own, it breaking and me hurting myself (as I tend to be kind of clumsy). Maybe a trampoline underneath would work? :-D
