Sunflowers + A New Skirt

It’s no secret that I love sunflowers. I’ve grown them every year for several years. I love how tall they get and I’m especially excited about them this year because they got waaaay taller than they ever have before! I tried to take a picture with them, not realizing that most of them were too tall to even be in the picture! :P

Sunflowers is one of my favorite Everclear songs. How fitting for this post! :)

Top: Target ♥ Skirt: I made it (tutorial coming soon!) ♥ Shoes: Blowfish (last year, I think) ♥ Bracelet: From this tutorial ♥ Hair star: also made by me ♥ Sunnies: Venice Beach boardwalk vendor ♥ Hair color: Splat

I’m not really one to do outfit posts. I love getting dressed up but honestly, I can’t afford to be super fashionable. But every now and then I feel good enough about myself to take photos. This was one of those days! It makes me happy to be able to say that I made something I’m wearing. I don’t really have the attention span to sew some of the things I’d really like to wear. But I’ve been trying to make more clothes recently. Just simple things like this skirt. I actually made a tutorial for this skirt and will share it very soon! :)

I’d do it to myself, except with the old henna dye, I don’t think it’d take, and I’m afraid of the colour I would end up. LOL

        Thank you! :)

I’ve never tried that henna dye. Does it come in crazy colors?

        • Melanie says:

No, it only comes in red. The only problem is that once you dye your hair with henna, you have to let ALL of the hennaed hair grow out (and cut off) before you can dye with chemicals again. Every hairdresser will tell you this. :) I’m afraid to do it, cause the results could be horrific! LOL

I love your outfit, especially the skirt and hair star! I don’t have the patience to make clothes for myself either…but if you do share that skirt tutorial, I’d love to try it! Loveley photos Julie!

      Thank you!!

I’m going to post the skirt tutorial next week I think. It’s really super easy to make and doesn’t even require that much fabric. Perfect for those of us without the patience for more complicated sewing projects! :D

When are you going to need new testers? I have been working hard, and think I am getting really great at your patterns, here’s the slouch hat I made: http://media-cache-ec5.pinterest.com/upload/111816003219245831_A0uRmjay.jpg and then the barefoot sandals I made ( and even modified the pattern) http://media-cache-ec4.pinterest.com/upload/111816003219244348_64HJCr9L.jpg

My 5 year old girl wanted to grow some sun flowers. It went quite well. But here in Finland circumstances are not so great. I’m glad we had some flowers. She also wanted basil. That didn’t went so well. So we just bought her some basil that she can take care of.
