Yarn Review: Sensations Breeze

I haven’t really written many yarn reviews because I tend to stick to my favorites unless I have a reason to use something else. But my friend bought a skein of Sensations Breeze and asked me to make a hat with it for her.

The wrapper calls it a light weight self patterning yarn. 72% Acrylic, 20% Cotton, 8% Nylon. I think it’s a sock yarn (or very close to that weight anyway). I used two strands held together the whole time and it was about the size of a strand of worsted weight. I used my Pineapple Coconut Skully pattern with it and modified it to be extra long.

My first thoughts were that it looked like Floam and everyone I’ve mentioned it to totally agrees! haha! The texture sorta reminds me of a towel and it’s really super soft!

It was easy to work with and also easy to undo, multiple times even, which is nice if you’re like me and forget your own pattern but are too lazy to get out of your cozy crocheting spot and go look at it. :P

I thought the striping was really pretty. My only gripe was that nearly 3/4 of the way through, while on a purple stripe, one of the strands was suddenly spliced together with a new green strand which totally threw off the striping. So I think the final 1/4 of my hat is slightly less pretty than the beginning. But that’s just me being super picky.

There’s almost 600 yards in a skein so even doubled up, that’s a generous amount and was way more than enough to make my hat. Actually, I’m pretty sure that I could even get a second hat out of it!

Overall, I really liked it and would recommend it if you’d like something with a unique texture! Plus with two strands being the same size as worsted weight, you can really use it with so many different patterns!

  1. Very pretty and creative! I don’t think I would have considered doubling up the strands. Thanks for opening up a world of possibilities!

  2. I got that yarn a few weeks ago and I’m crocheting a fillet table cloth out of it and I love the texture, it’s a little different than what I’ve seen before. I always try to stock up on seasonal Sensation yarn when I find something I really like. I bought the same exact color too. Sensation yarn this season is really interesting with the different textures they came out with and the bright colors.

  3. ACK! I would have been so mad too. I think the hat turned out great! Did you match up the colors when you started? (Are the two strands the same color at the same time?) I’ve always worried about double-stranding on self-striping yarn because of that. I love how the hat turned out.

  4. I totally agree— I bought some of this last weekend (I’d be eyeing it), and started a summery open vest/jacket. I love the texture and love the feel/look. I wish now that they would also come out in solids — I would buy this stuff ALOT!!
