that rat is too much! i love him!
my favorite halloween memory is definitely the one where I’m about 8 years old and had begged my mom to take me into my first haunted house. I thought I was so totally ready and prepared for what awaited me. Wellllll… not so much. Get in there and some guy chases me with a chainsaw through THE.WHOLE.HOUSE. (I’m guessing my screams encouraged him?!) I see the exit and am ready to bolt out of that place and these witches won’t let me out, my big bad 8year old self threatens to punch them if they don’t let me out…. they got punched. My mom still can’t tell that story without peeing herself with laughter!

My favorite Halloween memory is of a few year ago when my sister and I went Halloween decor crazy and decorated the front of my dads house. We went all out and the neighbors even brought their kids over after we did it so they could check it out and tell us what a great job we did :) It was a lot of fun!

    What an awesome decoration!

My favorite Halloween memory is trick or treating with my younger sister when we were kids. We had so much fun going from house to house and loading up on candy. One year when I was about 9, my sister was 5, I dressed up as Cleopatra (complete with black wig) and my sister went as Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story. We always had a lot of fun dressing up and shopping for our costumes together.

    Haha! Awesome rat!

My favorite Halloween memory is going trick or treating with my parents. We lived in the country so we had to drive to town, and my dad would drive slowly down the street while mom and I walked from house to house. One year I was about 8, we stopped by this man named Popeye’s house. (That wasn’t his real name but that’s what everyone called him) he’d started the bank in our town but he was retired, rich and a bit eccentric! He had llamas, ostrichs, tons of birds and snakes.. And his favorite holiday was Halloween! We saved his house for last and you had to walk up his long drive way to the full sized coffin set up on his front porch to get your candy. He was laying inside and just when you stuck your hand over to grab your candy bag, his son would jump out of the shrubs with a chainsaw (minus chain!) and chase you back down the driveway!

I screamed and ran without my candy. I dove into the back of my dads truck after bolting down the driveway spilling about half of my candy. Soon though, here came Popeye having gathered up my candy and he gave me two extra bags for scaring me so badly. That’s a special memory because he was so sweet, and that was his last Halloween as he soon caught a disease from one of his rare birds and passed away that winter.

He certainly made an impression, I adore any and all things scary and I always aim to do it up like Popeye! <3

  7. I have a great rat fave halloween story. My sister, Jane, has pet rats and on some halloweens she brings one to visit to our house. A couple of years ago she went trick or treating with us and my daughter with the rat nestled under her hair. We rang the doorbell of a neighbor’s home and she came out wiyh her basket of candy. She sia, “that’s funny, i thought i saw a mouse in your hair.” and it was moving around and it peered out again, with that long, fleshy tail, and jane, somewhat exasperated, started explaining that it was a rat in her hair, not a mouse at all.

We thought we were going to have to resucitate this poor lady!

These are awesome (and just so me)!! =)

My favorite Halloween memory is from waaaay back when I was 9 years old and so desperately wanted to dress up as Madonna. My parents wouldn’t go for it – but instead suggested I go as Cyndi Lauper. Honestly, I looked NOTHING like her (my hair was spray-painted a blotchy orange and, because of the cold weather up in Canada, I had to wear a big puffy anorak under my thrift-store bustier and layers of crinolines). But it was the best. costume. ever. in my pre-teen eyes. And now, years later, I have the bonus of being able to laugh at how fantastically horrendous I really looked ;)

  9. oh gosh, I think my best memories of halloween were just being young, going to a different neighborhood and trick or treating. I was normally a clown almost every year. lol I was hermione granger once. that was fun.

Fav halloween memory? Going through one of the many haunted houses over in Las Vegas about 7 or so years ago — behind me were a bunch of guys I didn’t know but they were added to my group of “people going through the house together.” I didn’t jump once from all the surprising things, those guys, however, jumped, and there was screaming. Several of the haunted house actors would see me see them, watch me keep on going, and they would take full opportunity to scare the people behind me. It was great!

I love that rat planter! My favorite Halloween memory was taking my oldest son trick or treating for the first time! He was a year old, and was wearing an adorable wizard costume. I think we only went to 4 or 5 houses down the street, but he had so much fun and it made me feel like such a fun mom :)

  13. Megan says:

when my best friend Zizi and I were trick or treating when we were wee little ones and a guy popped out from a bush with a chainsaw and chased all the way down the street back to her dad’s car. We were so scared , I think we really thought that, that was the end of us hahah.

Thank you for the giveaway ! I love your blog !

  14. Looooooooovvviiinnngggg all the great stories!

Too cute! Anyway, my favorite Halloween memory was when my grandma played a bit of a prank on us (my brother and I) while giving us our Halloween gifts. Instead of just giving us something, she made us put a blindfold on. After guiding us to her kitchen, she put our hands on the lid of a box. “You have thirty seconds to get your gift out of the box.” Without thinking, I found the hole in the lid and jammed my hand inside. You can’t imagine my horror when I felt something cold, slimy, and gooey all over my hand! I let out a shreik and wrenched my hand from the box, slinging whatever was on me throughout my grandma’s clean kitchen. This went on for the rest of my turn, though my brother was “manly” and got through without any screams. Come to find out, the cold, slimy and gooey was cooked spaghetti and jello mixed together! Our gifts were in little ziplocs and we had to dig through that yuckiness to get them! :)

Just when I thought he couldn’t possibly create anything cuter than the dinosaur planters… along comes the irradiated rat! Thank you so much to Lucas Michael for giving us the chance to win such a fun and generous giveaway. :)

My favorite Halloween memory was the year my best friend and I decided to “camp out” in the old cemetery across from her house. We were around 13 at the time and I’m pretty sure we thought we the toughest kids who ever lived. Ha! Our brilliant, and not so secret plan, was to sneak out after everyone went to bed and see how long we could last in the cemetery alone. Unfortunately for us her older brother and his friend overheard our scheming and came up with a little plan of their own. Just imagine our surprise when two zombified boys came leaping out from behind the gravestones! Needless to say that was the very last time we attempted to spend the night anywhere other than the safety of our own beds. ;)

  17. Jen says:

    Love the planter.
My favorite memory is the year my grandma made a homemade daisy duck costume for me. And the head was like a giant hat that was twice as big as my head and was so full of stuffing and heavy that I kept losing my balance and it would make me tip over.

My favorite Halloween memory is the year my boyfriend and i took my little brothers trick or treating. I felt like a good big sister and they were so cute! Wow, they are in their 20′s now.

Love this! one of my favorite halloween memory is when I was a teenager. My church had a “fall festival”. They had games and other family friendly things. The church decided to get a hot air balloon for people to go up in. It was tethered to the ground and went up a short distance and then came back down. Well the best part about it was that the balloon that the church got was a Hooter’s balloon. It was white and had HOOTERS in huge letters on it with the owl. I’m sure it drew people to the event. :)

Rats are my life! I love them more then anything!!

My favorite Halloween memory – Me and my best friend went trick or treating in a new area (for me- she lived there) and it was I believe in 2002. Because everyone was afraid to send their kids out, there was literally, nobody out!! So toward the end of our trick or treating people started saying “nobody has come the whole night” and then they would dump their entire bowls into our bags! You wouldn’t believe how much candy we got that year! I’ll never forget – Because we weighed it!! I ended up with 22lbs of candy!!

    Thanks for the chance :)

    That rattie is soooooo adorable!

My fave halloween memory actually involves a rattikins too!
Two years ago I opened the door to trick-or-treaters with my favorite rattie, Jester, on my shoulder.
There of course were cries of “Ewwww!”
But a lot of the kids were curious and asked if they could pet him. It was so nice to see kids get over some of their initial fear.

Love that rat planter–I used to keep rats as pets, and he is just the cutest/creepiest thing!

My favorite Halloween memory is from a party I went to as an adult. I had never made a Halloween costume from scratch before, but my then-boyfriend (now husband) and I were going to a huge party in the Detroit thrown by a photographer and I wanted us to look really amazing. My boyfriend bears a freakish and considerable resemblance to the young William Shatner and I am a huge Star Trek fan…so you can see where my brain headed.

I made myself a quick “alien girl” outfit and then spent HOURS sewing up the most authentic Star Trek uniform possible. Gold rick-rack ranking stripes, gold lame insignia on the chest, the works. My boyfriend looked incredible once all was said and done, but I was nervous to see what all the strangers at the party would say.

When we walked into the studio where the shindig was being held we had to pass the host’s hired bouncer. He was an intimidating guy, six feet tall and easily three hundred pounds, but when he saw my boyfriend his eyes lit up. “Captain Kirk!” he screamed. “Oh my God, I LOVE you!” He hugged my man so hard I wasn’t sure he would ever recover. Every few hours he would pop back up to hug him again. “This guy,” he told everyone, “is the MAN.” My boyfriend was so proud!

It still makes me grin to think about how much fun we had that year.

My desk totally needs this planter!

My favorite Halloween memory was when I was about 6 years old and my mom sewed me this big crazy mermaid fin so I could dress up as The Little Mermaid. Everyone loved it because my hair was really long and red and I felt like a queen because of all the compliments. Plus, my fin was covered in sequins and just plain awesome. I think I probably still have it in the basement somewhere haha.

I was always afraid of Halloween as a kid and never really liked going out, but I went just because I could wear my mermaid fin again. I wore it several years in a row. Hmm maybe I’ll wear it this year too ;)
